BBC Friday – “Your Board Of Directors” Strategy Roundtable & Critique

We’ll begin with our traditional round-the-table 1-minute elevator speeches (at BBC we like to offer more than the standard 30-second pitch to allow for a little about who you are not just what your business is).

Then we’ll try out our first 5-minute Ignite-style business presentation, including time for “Your Board Of Directors” strategy roundtable critique session. Ann Whitmore has graciously offered to be the first breakfast snack host and BBC-IGP (Ignite Guinea Pig). Please note: no guinea pigs will be harmed, harried or ignited during the making of this presentation.

BBC Friday – “Ignite Bainbridge” Business Strategy Roundtable

1st BBC Meeting @ OfficeXpats This Friday

Beginning this Friday, we will be meeting at our new location at OfficeXpats Coworking & Conference Center, located upstairs at the Pavilion. Jason Omens and Leslie Schneider have graciously invited to host the BBC in the main event room every Friday. OXP and BBC can bring together and share innovative ideas and business connections in this new, delightful, serendipitous coworking relationship. 

As Leslie puts it: “Bainbridge Business Connection (BBC) has been serving storefront and home-based business owners on Bainbridge Island for years. Recently, BBC has met in the beautiful Sun Room of Flowering Around. That space will now become Phoenix Rising – An Aveda Hair Salon, and BBC starts a new chapter at OfficeXpats. To celebrate the arrival of BBC on Friday mornings, we will host a pancake breakfast. (Don’t worry, we’ve done this before — remember pancakes during ThinkWeek?) Maybe it will become a new tradition. If so inspired, bring your favorite topping to share.“

Thank You Celebration: For this our final Friday meeting at Flowering Around, BBC will celebrate a long and wonderful relationship with our lovely hostess Ashley and her dedicated staff — especially our barista eccellente and tea-master Jake.

Beginning the week of March 5th, Phoenix Rising – An Aveda Hair Salon, will open for business in the Flowering Around Sun Room. Congratulations to both Flowering Around and Phoenix Rising!

We will also discuss our new relationship with OfficeXpats, where we have been kindly invited by Leslie and Jason to begin meeting on Friday, March 9th — with a hosted pancake breakfast, including coffee & tea (for just a couple bucks…yeah)!

Part of the original idea of the BBC was to encourage us local small business owners and entrepreneurs to not just learn about each others businesses but to get to know one another — to not only learn about what each of us does, but to get to know who each of us is.

To this end, we developed a variation on the exercise called the “elevator speech” — where each person gives a 30 second introduction to their business (because that’s often all the time one has when introduced to a person…you know…like, in an elevator…unless there’s a power-out, and they you really get to know each other).

So, the way we do it at BBC: for anyone who wants to give it a shot, they give a brief (30 seconds to 1 minute) introduction to the business of a fellow BBC member, which also includes a word or two about  who that person is — “between the ears,” as our fearless leader emeritus Tim Longley used to put it.

That’s it. Learning how to introduce another person and their business in less than a minute can make it all that much easier to do it for one’s own business.

Think of your favorite business book (or books) and bring a review or copy of the book to share with the group. Be creative: your suggested book can be a non-fiction how-to book, a business development or finance guide, or maybe even your favorite fiction novel that has inspired you in your business endeavors, like Moby Dick or Crime And Punishment or Conan The Barbarian (later in life Conan had many careers, he was a real entrepreneur, though his methods could be a bit heavy-handed — after all, Hostile-Takeover was his brand, his logo a scimitar buried in an enemy’s skull…or not…if he was looking for a partner).

BBC Open-mike Friday!

We had so much fun last Friday, we’ve decided to hold a followup creative strategy roundtable session for whoever of us could use a little old-fashioned Business Brainstorming (the two “B”s of BBC), what we often call a “Your Board Of Directors” session, with some fun contiguous vision sharing, critical analysis, and new ideas assessment. Especially helpful for new business ventures and business re-imaging. So, if you’re starting a new business this BBC Friday is especially for you!
