This session will be a follow-up on the BBC WP presentation by Annette Walker last October 3rd. Annette gave a great introduction then. This session will be a good chance to ask Katherine further questions about WordPress. So bring your thoughts, queries, and conundrums this Friday, along with … you know, your brains. (There’s always plenty of coffee to aid the synapses!)

Planning a WordPress Website. OfficeXpats Tue@Noon January 27th Workshop (now extended and more comprehensive at 1.5 hours long) will feature Katherine’s presentation on WordPress. “Walk through the steps of choosing themes and plug ins and getting your content ready, and be on your way! Whether you are planning to do it all yourself or work with a developer, and whether you are starting from scratch or moving an existing site to the WordPress platform, this workshop will help you understand the steps involved and how to use the WordPress dashboard and tools to present the information you want to share online. Hands on, to facilitate exploration (but don’t expect to be building a website from scratch in 90 minutes!). Planning worksheets included.”

The First BBC was held on Friday, 9 January 2009,  at the Blue Ocean Cafe (Blue Ocean closed its doors a year later on March 1st 2010). We were called BISBER back then: “Bainbridge Island Small Business Entrepreneurial Roundtable” – happily later shortened to BBC. After the Blue Ocean, we met downstairs at the Pavilion, then at Local Harvest (which closed its doors in 2012), then a couple times at the wonderful coffee destination  Roosters Cafe (note, Thuy Nguyen finally has a great website for Roosters), then at the excellent florist shop Flowering Around, finally to settle at our present most gracious location of OfficeXpats Coworking & Conference Center so very kindly hosted by Leslie & Jason. (officexpats.com/renewal-and-vision-for-2015)

Thank You Leslie & Jason!  Jason and Leslie invited us to meet at OfficeXpats in 2012, and they have been wonderful and accommodating hosts ever since. This BBC Friday Xpat Mistress Leslie Schneider will lead a happy and serendipitous Business Strategy Roundtable discussion on “How to Promote Business Events on the Island” (and not just any island).

Ever wondered how one goes about reaching an audience and convincing them to show up for YET ANOTHER EVENT? There’s always more to try! We will start with the standard process for how OfficeXpats has promoted past events and then try to go beyond and break new ground. For a real-world example, we will focus on Katherine Van Slyke’s upcoming January health coaching event “Beyond Willpower” (intality.com). Leslie promises a handout listing the OfficeXpats promotion checklist, and then we’ll put the subject on the table for discussion, strategizing, and development.

Breakfast Potluck: this last BBC of 2014 (ending 5 exciting years of BBCness and looking to Year Six) will also be a “Bring a breakfast snack to share” event: for example, make or grab on the way in healthy donuts, bagels, breakfast scones and jam, anything with SPAM (or anything without SPAM).

Note: the electricity around here at OXp doesn’t tend to allow for successful cooking on hotplates or griddles, so snacks should be ready to eat, or at least of a sort that can be microwaved warm. Be creative, be happy, be BBC!
